Express Scripts, Inc. (NASDAQ:ESRX) jumped 0.70% to $102.39 after its first-quarter profit rose to 94 cents a share, or an adjusted $1.10, from 86 cents in the year-ago period. Revenue jumped to $11.14 billion from $5.42 billion.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) climbed 2% to $13.52 after Standard & Poor's raised the ratings outlook on the car maker to positive from stable. S&P has a B- corporate credit rating on Ford and Ford Motor Credit Co. "The company's "prospects for sustained profitability in its global automotive operations in 2010 have improved since our previous assumptions, even if margins do not remain at their current levels," said S&P credit analyst Robert Schulz.

Fortune Brands, Inc. (NYSE:FO) surged 2.11% to $54.79 after its first-quarter profit jumped to 47 cents a share from 5 cents in the year-ago period. Net sales rose 13% to $1.6 billion from $787 million. On an adjusted basis, the Deerfield, Ill., consumer-products company earned 49 cents a share. Analysts polled by FactSet were looking for 36 cents a share.

Ball Corporation (NYSE:BLL) slid 1.11% to $54.16 after its first-quarter net income rose 14% to $79.3 million, or 84 cents a share. The consensus forecast was 75 cents a share, according to FactSet. Sales climbed nearly 8% to $1.7 billion. The company reiterated its forecast for fiscal 2010 earnings to be higher than in 2009.

Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) rose 0.57% to $85.44 after its first-quarter net income rose to $1.31 a share from 45 cents in the year-ago period. The company's operating earnings totaled $1.32 a share in the latest quarter. Revenue rose to $4.77 billion from $3.07 billion. Wall Street expected the company to earn $1.35 a share on revenue of $4.8 billion, according to FactSet.
