Johnny Podres of the Brooklyn Dodgers Dies at 75

Johnny Podres pitched for at the World Series Championship for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1955.  Since then, Podres has been a celebrated figure in the history of the Dodgers.

Podres lived in Queensbury, NY.  He died at a hospital in Glens Falls, NY Sunday at the age of 75.

His wife Joan announced Podres’ death.  He was receiving treatment for a leg infection as well as heart and kidney problems.

Podres was 148-116 in 15 major-league seasons.  In 1955 at the World Series championship, Podres helped the Dodgers win their first World Series after eight tries, which included 5 losses to the Yankees.  Podres beat the Yankees in Game 3, 8-3 and then again in Game 7, 2-0.
