Apple CEO Steve Jobs Defends Company’s Decision to Keep Flash Off Products

Apple Inc.’s CEO Steve Jobs has defended his firm’s decision to keep Flash off many of the products made by his company, saying in an open letter that the software did not translate well when implemented on touchscreen smartphones and handheld devices.

Apple’s popular iPod, iPhone and iPad products are not able to run the Flash software and Jobs pointed to the technologies inability to support multi-touch systems and its tendency to drain battery power as key reasons for his company’s decision.

Jobs went on to say Flash was also susceptible to security breaches, noting the technology was “number one reason Macs crash.”
