NHL Playoffs Schedule Thursday April 29: San Jose Sharks Host Detroit Red Wings in Game 1 of Second Round Series

The San Jose Sharks will be hosting the Detroit Red Wings in Game 1 of their second round NHL playoff series on Thursday and while they posted the Western Conference’s best record in the regular season they will need to improve on their first round play if they are to get past a veteran lineup that seems determined to capture a Stanley Cup title.

San Jose bounced back from an opening game loss to the Colorado Avalanche and eventually won their series in six games but they didn’t get much help from their big three- Patrick Marleau, Joe Thornton and Dany Heatley. They will need to contribute more than they did in the opening round if they are to put Detroit away.

The Red Wings are coming off a rough seven game series with the Phoenix Coyotes and will need to bounce back quick as San Jose will certainly look to put the pressure on them in the opener. That could make for a long night for Detroit’s rookie goalie Jimmy Howard who was a bit inconsistent in hs series with the Coyotes.
