Toyota has recalled about 50,000 Sequoia sports utility vehicles from 2003 after it was discovered the vehicle was having traction problems that caused unexpected slowing.
The Sequoia recall is expected to correct the error electronic stability control system in the SUV, an error that prevents the driver from accelerating the vehicle.
While there had been no reports of injuries or accidents due to the issue the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been looking into the problem and Toyota opted to issue the recall before anything happened.
Toyota has said that nearly half the SUVs involved in the recall had already been fixed under warranty.
