Spain’s Unemployment Hits 20%, Highest in Eurozone

The unemployment rate in Spain has hit a staggering 20%, a percentage that represents about 4.6 million people. Spain has been among the hardest hit by the economic downturn that has swept across Europe as the 20% figure is the first time the country has seen those numbers in more than a decade.

Spain’s unemployment is the highest in the eurozone and is twice the eurozone unemployment rate of 10% according to figures released by the European Union. That 10% figure is roughly15.8 million people unemployed.

Germany was the only EU country that produced a lower jobless rate as it fell from 7.4% to 7.3%.
