Brett Favre has learned that he will need to undergo ankle surgery if he is to return to the Minnesota Vikings and play a 20th year in the NFL.
Favre put together one of the best seasons of his career last year in leading the Vikings to the NFC Championship Game against the New Orleans Saints. It was in that game that Favre suffered the ankle injury and he has yet to recover completely.
According to famed orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews surgery is the only option for Favre and now it will be up to the 41-year-old quarterback to decide if he wants to follow through or retire.
The Vikings were within a play or two from reaching the Super Bowl last year but a Favre interception ended a drive that could have won the game. He now has to decide if playing through another long regular season is worth the shot at capturing one more title.
