Recovery Forums Are Available for Those Seeking Addiction Help

Many times people may wish they had someone to talk to on a more personal level than when they are participating in group counseling at an addiction treatment program. However, they also know the importance of protecting identities and confidential information.

For these people, online forums provide an outlet for them to interact with others who are in or have been in addiction recovery programs, or have loved ones who are or were in them. The forums give people a chance to discuss specific issues or concerns, or just talk about general subjects not related to drug addiction recovery.

The official website provides a link to the Drug Abuse Recovery Help forum website. The website is very user-friendly, as there are individual sections for different subjects. For example, the first section is “Introduce Yourself”. This forum provides a means for people to share information and get to know others who participate in the online discussions.

Other forum sections include topics such as 12-step, drug abuse discussion, and treatment. The treatment section can be especially helpful as it provides information and allows people to talk to others concerning the types of addiction recovery programs available, and which ones seem to have worked best for certain people.

Another section that may be useful is the “Help, Support and Recovery” section. This section encourages participants to provide assistance to others as they cope with and/or recover from drug abuse. Members are asked to share their experiences. In addition, it urges those who enter this discussion group who may need to do so to ask for help.

This can be very beneficial to someone who knows they need addiction treatment, but may have been embarrassed or ashamed to ask for help. By talking to others who have been down the same road, or have supported others during their drug addiction recovery, a person may be more willing to ask for assistance in finding a treatment program.

There is a “General Chit Chat” section for those who want to talk about anything else but drug addiction, drug abuse, and related subjects. Participants are asked to keep the discussion topics very general, however, and use the “Social Groups” link to talk about religion, politics, or any other “touchy” subject.
