Popcorn lunch is a condition caused by diacetyl, an artificial butter flavoring that was commonly used in popcorn.  Popcorn lung, or constrictive bronchiolitis, is a lung disease that clogs the bronchioles with granulation tissue.  Thos who suffer from popcorn lung experience a severe shortness of breath, dry coughing and wheezing.  The effects of the disease are irreversible and often lead to a lung transplant.

Wayne Watson of Denver has popcorn lung, and he blames the local grocery store.

Watson, a microwave popcorn lover, claims that the diacetyl in the microwave popcorn he eats regularly caused his dangerous condition.  He is suing Kroger and to of it’s divisions.

According to a Kroger spokeswoman, the company will not comment on lawsuits.
