Former child star Willie Aames was featured on NBC's "Today Show" Wednesday, discussing a new book, overcoming obstacles and a recent encounter with an armed robber.
Aames was a victim of armed robbery while filming "Celebrity Fit Club Bootcamp". Aames, also a former star of “Eight Is Enough” and “Charles in Charge,” was taking his wife, Maylo Upton-Aames, to dinner to celebrate her 46th birthday.
Also in the group were a female friend of Maylo’s and Willie Aames’ 27-year-old son by his first marriage, Christopher.
After the robber put a gun to his head and the head of his son, Aames was preparing to thwart the robber, utilizing the Krav Maga form of self-defense he learned while on "Celebrity Fit Club Bootcamp". However, Christopher tossed the robber his wallet, and he hopped into a car and sped off, only receiving $15.
The book, written by Aames and wife Maylo, is entitled "Grace Is Enough". The book discusses how both have overcome many obstacles in their lives and the love they have for one another. Aames was a fallen child actor who was enraptured by sex, drugs and alcohol.
Aside from the book and robbery, Aames has been in the news for a recent tattoo. To honor the final taping of "Celebrity Fit Club Bootcamp", Aames got inked with a tattoo of the show's trainer, Sgt. Harvey Walden, on his calf.
