Televised Shooting of Protestor Enrages Odinga Supporters

The Orange Democratic Movement party is furious over the public broadcasting of a video showing a protester being brutally shot by police.

About seven other people were killed by gun wounds in the Mathare slum, and a 5 year old boy was injured in the leg on Thursday in the Kibera slum according to opposition leaders.

The video revealing the violence taking place in Kisumu was aired on the Kenya Television Network.

The ODM stated it “condemns in the strongest terms the cold-blooded execution of a wounded youth who was peacefully protesting in Kisumu.  We demand the immediate prosecution of the officer who committed this murder, and those who have issued the shoot to kill instructions to police.  This killing and the other acts of violence inflicted on peaceful protestors will be part of the case we are filing with the International Criminal Court in The Hague.”

The protests began after the December Kenya Elections.  President Mwai Kibaki beat his opponent, Raila Odinga in the presidential race, however many suspect that the elections were rigged in Kibaki’s favor.

The ODM plans to continue their protests until a resolution is made.
