German Polar Bear Cub Named Flocke

A German polar bear cub born in Nuremberg Zoo this month has been officially named Flocke, or Snowflake in English.

The name was decided on by a jury  made of city and zoo officials.  The jury says they received more than 50,000 e-mails, letters and postcards worldwide with name suggestions.

Flocke was taken out of the polar-bear enclosure after being dropped several times from a dangerous height by her mother.  Two other bear cubs have disappeared.  Zoo officials believe the mother ate them.
