Narconon of Georgia will provide drug education in a Youth Shut In today at the Rosa L. Parks Recreational Center from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. The Youth Shut In is being hosted by Atlanta City Councilmember Joyce Shepherd and City Councilmember C. T. Martin.
Narconon of Georgia, which is a non-12 step drug rehab program, will participate in the Shut In, where discussions will be held with children to promote the Sagging Pants Law, a proposed amendment in the City of Atlanta.
This amendment, proposed by City Councilmember C.T. Martin, would ban baggy pants that show boxer shorts or thongs . "I don't want young people thinking that half dressing is the way to go. I want them to think about their future," the amendment's sponsor, City Councilman C. T. Martin said Wednesday.
R&B recording artists Neo, Ciera and Lil Jacob will perform live at this event, and activities are organized to promote self-respect and self-worth.
Geno Lewis, Community Relations for Narconon of Georgia, stated, “We are working hard to stop the message being given to our kids that its ok to use drugs, be a gang-member, and commit crimes. In Georgia, about one third of our students reported being offered, sold or given an illegal drug on school property within the past year. Our children depend on us to shine the light on the truth about drugs and show them a better way. At Narconon, we know that while we educate kids about the dangers of drugs, we must teach them basic life skills at the same time. Otherwise we will continue to have violence, addiction, and hate.”
The children will learn how drugs affect the mind, make a person slow or stupid, dull the senses and destroy creativity.
Narconon of Georgia is a non-traditional drug abuse treatment program. Its primary objective is to clean up communities with drug treatment and drug prevention. They work with families, community leaders and law makers to achieve this end.
