Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Can Lead to Substance Abuse; G&G Holistic Drug Rehab Can Help

Treatment for PTSD can include counseling sessions, which may utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as part of the therapy. EMDR is a process whereby a person is trained to focus on a specific memory that may have caused the PTSD or that may cause a person to begin experiencing increased symptoms of PTSD.

When EMDR is utilized by a trained professional in a counseling session, the patient is instructed to focus briefly on the memory or memories that trigger PTSD. From there, the patient is guided by the counselor to begin focusing on positive memories rather than dwelling on the disturbing ones.

Those who suffer from PTSD may turn to substance abuse as a means of controlling or numbing the feelings (or at least thinking they are) that come with this condition. When this happens, they may be reluctant to seek treatment because they fear no one will understand how the two problems are related.

G&G Holistic Drug Rehab understands that there are often triggers that cause substance abuse, and one of these may be PTSD. The main concern of the highly trained staff at G&G, however, is concentrating on helping a client overcome substance abuse, no matter what its underlying cause. And one way in which they do this is through the use of EMDR.

Counselors at G&G are highly trained in the procedure of using EMDR as a therapy tool. They know how to take the client through the process of recalling the negative memories then replacing them with the positive ones, so that the triggers which cause PTSD, and ultimately substance abuse, can be dealt with in ways that do not involve using drugs or alcohol.

If you suffer from PTSD, or knows someone who does, and substance abuse is a consequence, EMDR therapy as practiced at G&G Holistic Drug Rehab may be the answer to your problems. Please log on to http://www.holisticdrugrehab.com/ or call 1-800-559-9503 for more information.
