Prescription Drug Abuse Is On The Rise

Prescription drug abuse is becoming more and more threatening to the lives of Americans.  A recent study showed that between the years on 1999-2006, hospitalizations for accidental overdose of prescription drugs have increased by one-third.  Even worse, hospitalizations for intentional overdoses of prescription drugs have increased 130% over that same time period. Prescription drug poisoning is the second leading cause of death in the United States.

This study was not prejudice of its victims.  These figures included people of all races and ages from teenagers to the elderly population.  The study did prove that women under the age of thiry-four are far more likely to be admitted for accidental overdose.  When comparing men vs. women of all ages; the study showed that men were more likely to be admitted than women for accidental overdose.

One of the biggest concerns is teenagers having access to these medications and becoming addicted at such early ages.  Whether it is through a doctor, a parent’s medicine cabinet, or even on the street from other teens or dealers, the drugs are available.

Controlled substances like psychoactive drugs as well as other substances like depressants, stimulants, hallucinogens and anabolic steroids have a tendency to hook people. They are easy to become dependent on and/or addicted to.  Prescription drugs are even more commonly abused than cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.  They are the second most abused right behind marijuana.

The chances of someone quitting drugs or alcohol without a drug treatment program are very slim. If you or a loved one are suffering with addiction it is important that you are connected with a trusted treatment facility.  Narconon Suncoast Rehabilitation Center located in central Florida specializes in drug and alcohol addiction treatment and offers a program that demonstrates lasting success.

The goal of Suncoast Rehabilitation Center is to have graduates who not only live drug-free lives but, who also go on to lead stable, ethical and productive lives as well.  Suncoast Rehabilitation Center is one of the most successful centers in the Narconon network.  Here they offer a full-service in-patient center that delivers the full Narconon program; which is considered to be the most comprehensive drug rehabilitation program in the world.  Narconon Suncoast deals directly with each individual’s addiction; assessing their personal recovery needs and goals.

Narconon Suncoast
has achieved a remarkable level of success in its first year of operation both from the State and student standpoint. The Department of Children and Family Services (DCF) did its routine inspection as it does for any drug rehab facility and Narconon Suncoast received one of the highest scores ever given to a new facility.
