The Food and Drug Administration has launched an investigation following a recall of several children’s cold and allergy medicines.
McNeil Consumer Healthcare issued a voluntary recall of children’s Tylenol, Tylenol Plus, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl after discovering the medicines failed to meet quality standards. According to the recall there could be a higher concentration of active ingredient than is listed on the bottle.
The FDA is now investigating the procedures at McNeil Consumer Healthcare, reviewing the procedures at thee company.
More than 40 over-the-counter medications have been pulled from the shelves and McNeil Consumer Healthcare has advised consumers to stop giving the cold and allergy medicines to children. While the company has said any adverse effects due to the use of the medicines are remote the recall was issued as a precautionary measure.
