Martin Luther King Day
marks the 23rd annual celebration of the civil rights leader Martin
Luther King Jr. Sonic Foundry an Penn State
University will be
contributing to the celebrations by broadcasting the speeches of Dr. King using
Sonic Foundry’s newest webcasting platform, Mediasite.
Barry Kernfeld of Penn State
University says, “We have
a number of strong civil rights collections that we routinely exhibit on Martin
Luther King, Jr. Day. With this
collection being completed, it was a no-brainer to use it as a centerpiece this
year.” Kernfield will be giving the
Mediasite presentation today.
Jack Rabin first started
the collection in the 1970s. Staff
members of Penn State
Penn State
in Harrisburg
wil have access to the webcast. Rabin
says, “They would like to participate in the public unveiling of the
collection. Because Penn State
has more than 20 campuses, webcasting the presentation is a great opportunity.
Assistant to the Dean for
External Relations at Penn
State, Shirley Davis, has
noted that the event will be archived for on-demand access to ensure that as
many people as possible will be able to view to videos. Davis
is expecting a mixed audience including general public high school student as
well as the university community.
The webcast, Lifting the
Veil: The Jack Rabin Collection of Alabama Civil Rights and Southern Activists,
will be broadcasted at www.sonicfoundry.com/pennstate/king at 10 am EST.
