The heavy rains that triggered massive flooding across the southern states has already claimed 29 lives and officials have said that death toll will likely rise as receding waters reveal the true extent of the damage.
Tennessee was hit particularly hard with 19 people in the state confirmed dead. In Nashville several homes and buildings are still without power while streets remain submerged. Damage across the city is extensive but officials fear as the waters recede a number of bodies may be found.
Nashville wasn’t the only city in the state hit hard as several parts of central Tennessee remain underwater after the Cumberland River breached its banks. Mississippi and Kentucky were also hit hard by the weekend storms with ten people reportedly killed in the flooding in the two states.
