Flynn was having an affair with Pamela Smart in 1990 when he shot her husband Gregory Smart in New Hampshire. Pamela was the mastermind of the murder plot which ended with Gregory pleading for his life on his knees in front of Flynn He was sentenced to 28 years-to-life while Pamela received a full life sentence.

Flynn, now 33, is petitioning to be freed because he has spent more than half of his life in prison. Court documents say Flynn has earned a high school diploma, been married, earned a permit to help an electrician and raised money for charity.

“He has used those years to develop from a boy into a man of great character, fully rehabilitated and ready to contribute to society upon his release from incarceration,” says his lawyer.

Flynn has also provided more than three dozen letters from family members, prison employees, and business owners telling of their support.
