Extreme skier Billy Poole died yesterday after having a skiing accident while he was being filmed on Big Cottonwood Canyon slopes in Utah. The 28-year-old jumped a cliff called Wolverine Cirque but never made a clean land. Poole landed in a rocky area and suffered multiple injuries.
Ski patrollers were the first to reach Poole. He was flown to University of Utah Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m.
Black Diamond Equipment Ltd, who sponsored Poole, released a statement about the skier’s death. “His stature was increasing. He was inspiring, outgoing, friendly – the perfect ambassador for a company like Black Diamond,” said the company’s Chief Executive Peter Metcalf. “He lived the life of big mountain skier on just enough money to support his habit. In this sport death is part of life.”
