Central New York retailer Natur-Tyme, along with the New York Spine & Wellness Center are putting on a free event called ‘Pain, Pain Go Away!’ at the Jewish Community Center in Dewitt, NY on Sunday, May 16th from noon until 5 PM. The event is free, and tickets are available at Natur-Tyme.
Featured at the event will be some of Central New York’s most knowledgeable medical doctors and complementary treatment practitioners, including reiki practitioners, yoga and Pilates instructors, aromatherapists, acupuncturists, and physical therapists. Those suffering from ongoing pain are encouraged to attend.
Included among those who often experience chronic pain are individuals undergoing chemotherapy and other treatments for various types of cancer, including mesothelioma. In the last decade, alternative therapies have been more widely recommended for patients experiencing certain side effects of chemo and radiation. Acupuncture, for example, is often a very beneficial alternative treatment for cancer patients who are experiencing side effects like fatigue, pain, and headaches. Another alternative treatment known as reiki is also becoming more popular among oncologists and their patients. Reiki's peaceful and non-invasive approach to healing has proven to be a successful palliative therapy in cancer treatment. In addition, yoga has been known to restore flexibility to cancer patients who have spent long hours in a hospital bed, not to mention it can restore balance to the mind and body and promote healing.
It’s important for cancer patients – especially those suffering from aggressive and incurable cancers such as mesothelioma – to consider all of their treatment options upon diagnosis. Chemotherapy, for example, is often very effective in treating cancer, but has many side effects, many of which are extremely uncomfortable. As acceptance of alternative therapies for the treatment of cancer patients increases among those in the field of oncology, patients have an opportunity to try new methods of relieving the pain and discomfort associated with traditional forms of cancer management. For patients with mesothelioma, alternative mesothelioma treatment options are something to be considered, as this disease progresses rapidly once diagnosed.
