NHL Playoffs Schedule Thursday May 6: Montreal Canadiens Look to Even Series with Pittsburgh Penguins, Sharks Shooting for Sweep of Red Wings

The NHL playoffs schedule for Thursday features a pair of games with a lot riding on the outcome as the Montreal Canadiens host the Pittsburgh Penguins while the Detroit Red Wings take on the San Jose Sharks.

After taking one of two in Pittsburgh the Montreal Canadiens had a great shot at taking control of their best-of-seven series on their home ice. Unfortunately for them they dropped Game 3 to fall behind in the series 1-2 and they can’t afford another loss on Thursday if they are to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals. While Montreal managed to overcome a three-game hole in their opening round series with the Washington Capitals a repeat performance would be unlikely.

A win will keep the Canadiens hopes alive as they already know they can win in Pittsburgh but Sidney Crosby and the Penguins aren’t likely to let up on Thursday and would certainly like to head home one game shy of a series win.

The San Jose Sharks are in position to sweep the Detroit Red Wings as they hold a 3-0 lead in their series. San Jose has been living up to their playoff potential this year and a win on Thursday will move them one step closer to their first Western Conference title.

Detroit’s hopes of returning to the NHL Finals faded considerably after dropping Game 3 on their home ice as Patrick Marleau scored the game-winner for San Jose in overtime. If they are to pull off a miracle comeback they will need to improve defensively as they have given up four goals in each of the first three games.
