Feeling Cornered, Barack Obama Fighting Back

Following his first win the Iowa caucus, Illinois Senator Barack Obama lost three consecutive primaries in New Hampshire, Nevada and Michigan, although he was not on Michigan's ballot and is looking for a reversal of fortune in South Carolina and on Super Tuesday February 5. His main complaint is the tone the primary election has taken from everyone making nice to everyone getting nasty.

After being accused of looking for a fight in a Democrat debate in South Carolina, Obama stated he is only trying to set the record straight as other candidates have been distorting the truth and stopped just short of referring to the Clintons as liars. However, even third-place finisher John Edwards had some not so nice things to say about Obama.

According to recent polls posted on usaelectionpolls.com Obama should have had little trouble winning the primary in South Carolina, but is lagging in national polls. Clinton leads national polls with 42 percent and Obama is in second with 33 percent. John Edwards is in his consistent third place with 17 percent. He had hoped to fare better in his neighboring state of South Carolina, but polls just days before the primary showed with between 10 and 15 percent, depending on which poll was used.

During most debates and public appearances, Obama has stressed the need for the candidates to stick to the issues to give the American public the real idea of what each of the candidates stood for on those issues. During the South Carolina debate, he strayed from those ideals in order to attack what he believes to be many distortions of fact.
