A teenager who allegedly plotted to hijack a flight from Los Angeles to Nashville was arrested on Tuesday after he was discovered to be carrying handcuffs, rope and duct tape in his bag.
The teen was aboard Southwest Airlines Flight 284 that landed in Nashville when he was found to be carrying the items. He was taken into custody and will likely face state and federal charges related to the incident.
Earlier reports speculated that the 16-year-old had intended on commandeering the plane and crashing it into a Hannah Montana concert in Lafayette, Louisiana but that has since been dismissed.
Authorities searched the boy’s home in California and discovered a mock cockpit in his room.
Despite having the items inside his bag on the flight the teen never made an attempt to hijack the plane. When he was apprehended at the Nashville International Airport he told FBI officials about his original intentions.
