Kirsten Haglund, Miss Michigan, Crowned New Miss America

Miss Michigan Kirsten Haglund was crowned the newest Miss America on Saturday night after the 19-year-old edged out Miss Indiana Nicole Elizabeth Rash in the pageant’s 87^th annual competition.

Haglund, who sang “Over the Rainbow” in the talent portion of the pageant, collected $50,000 for taking the title.

When asked about what she would do as the new Miss America the blond said she would focus her attention on eating disorders. After hearing her name announced, Haglund said “The only words that come to my mind is that this is a dream come true, not just for me but for my family as well.”
