Church President Hinckley died last night in his Salt Lake City, Utah. KSL
News reports that Hinckley was the 15th
president of the Latter-Day Saints Church and passed away at 7 o’clock
yesterday evening. The 97 year old man
passed away with his family by his side.
Although Hinckley had cancer surgery in 2006, Kim Farah, LDS
church spokeswoman, stated that “the cause [of his death] was incident to his
age.”
According
to Deseret News, the President’s health was declining the past few weeks, but
unlike previous presidents, “He worked until the very end.” Hinckley
went through his final treatment of chemotherapy last week, but fell ill after
a few days.
While
interviewing with the Utah news media a few
days before his 95th birthday, Hinckley
was asked how he planned on celebrating his 100th birthday. Hinckley’s response
was, “No, I don't. Don't have the slightest idea ... I am not counting on it. I
just count that I'll live as long as I can and cash in.”
