Gunmen Hold More than Two Dozen Hostages at Pakistani High School

Gunmen fleeing police entered a Pakistani high school on Monday and held more than two dozen students and teachers hostage before finally surrendering to authorities.

The gunmen had originally abducted a health chief and two of his relatives from a neighboring district and were involved in a shootout with police when they entered the school near Bannu along the Afghanistan border.

After nearly five hours the gunmen freed all hostages and surrendered. They were being held by tribal mediators who were in talks with police and local government officials to determine their fate.
