Christine Beatty Resigns as Chief of Staff for Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick after Text Messages Revealed
Sexually explicit text messages traded by Christine Beatty and Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick have led to a shakeup in his office. Beatty, Kilpatrick’s top aide, has said she will resign as chief of staff effective Feb. 8, noting the scandal has made it nearly impossible for her to carry out her duties.
Beatty’s decision comes after allegations that she was having an affair with Kilpatrick, something both have denied under oath.
An investigation has been launched to review the allegations which surfaced after several sexually explicit text messages between the two were reported by the Detroit Free Press.
