Margaret Truman, the only child born to former President Harry S. Truman, died on Tuesday at the age of 83 after a brief illness.
An accomplished writer, actress, and concert singer, Margaret Truman had four sons with her husband, journalist Clifton Daniel who she married in 1956.
As a concert singer Truman made her debut in 1947 with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and later performed at Carnegie Hall but by 1954 she had stepped away from music and began focusing on acting.
She made several appearances with legends like Milton Berle and Jimmy Durante and even co-hosted an NBC radio broadcast with Mike Wallace.
By 1956 Truman had published her first book, an autobiography titled “Souvenir,” and she would go on to write several more with most focusing on mystery
Margaret Truman is survived by three sons, her son William was killed in September 2000 after being hit by a taxi and her husband died in February of that year.
