Barack Obama Picks up Endorsement from Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius

One day after Senator Edward Kennedy endorsed Barack Obama the Democratic presidential candidate nabbed another high-profile supporter as Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius threw her support behind the Illinois senator.

In what has traditionally been a conservative state, Kansas has become a key battle ground for Democrats who have seen a shift in the state’s ideology. Sebelius, a democrat, has enjoyed two terms in office and her endorsement was coveted by Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards.

Sebelius opted to endorse Obama, telling the Associated Press, “I think he represents the kind of leader that we need for the future of the country. I think he brings the hope and optimism that we really need to restore our place in the world, as well as to bring this country together and really tackle the challenges that we have.”

Kansas will hold its caucuses on Super Tuesday, Feb. 5
