NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NRG) said its first-quarter profit dropped 71% to $58 million, or 22 cents a share, while revenue rose to $2.22 billion from $1.66 billion. Analysts polled by FactSet expected earnings of 31 cents a share. Before tax, NRG recorded $456 million less in derivatives gains than the prior-year period, the firm said. Excluding mark-to-market gains, its adjusted EBITDA rose to $601 million from $477 million.

Echostar Corporation (NASDAQ:SATS) said it swung to a first-quarter profit of $72 million after losing $1 million in the prior-year period, with revenue climbing 31% to $627 million.
DISH Network Corp. (NASDAQ:DISH) reported Monday that in the first-quarter the company earned $230.9 million, or 52 cents a share and revenue grew 5% to $3.06 billion, topping Wall Street's expectations for profit of 50 cents per share on revenue of $3.05 billion.
Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE:TSN) jumped 7.84% to $20.08 after it reported Monday fiscal second-quarter earnings of 42 cents per share on $2.49 billion in sales, significantly ahead of the estimates of a profit of 34 cents a share.
