Xanax Addiction & Treatment

Prescription drug abuse is rapidly on the rise in the United States.  One of the most threatening of the classes of drugs available is the benzodiazepines; commonly referred to as benzo’s.  This type of drug is very addicting and is most commonly prescribed for the treatment of anxiety, panic disorders, and panic attacks.

Benzodiazepines often result in deep unconsciousness and are often detected in drug overdoses.  One of the most commonly used and abused of this class is Xanax.  Xanax abuse is very dangerous and often happens accidentally.  Those who abuse Xanax normally find pleasure in the relaxing and drowsy effects that it causes.  Xanax stimulates the pleasure centers in the brain and produces a euphoric feeling. An addiction is usually born when a person beings to chase and recapture the feelings of euphoria.

Xanax was primarily used as a tranquilizer in the 1960s and fell out for some time until the 1980s and 1990s when it was reintroduced to control anxiety and stress.  Recent statistics show that over three million Americans are currently taking Xanax, ranking this drug as the most commonly prescribed psychotropic drug in use. Xanax use very often leads to abuse and addiction to the drug can be fatal.

Often a person who is prescribed Xanax and other psychoactive drugs such as Valium, Ativan, Librium and Halcion doesn’t even know that they are at risk for addiction.  In other instances the drugs are used intentionally to counter the effects of other stimulants such as cocaine and ecstasy and downers such as heroin and alcohol.  Regardless of how the user obtains it or what they are using it for, they are putting themselves at a risk for dependency.

If a person does become addicted, there is help available as the chances of someone quitting drugs or alcohol without a drug treatment program are very slim. If you or a loved one are suffering with addiction to a benzodiazepine or any other drug it is important that you are connected with a trusted treatment facility.  Narconon Suncoast Rehabilitation Center located in central Florida specializes in drug and alcohol addiction treatment and offers a program that demonstrates lasting success.

The goal of Suncoast Rehabilitation Center is to have graduates who not only live drug-free lives but, who also go on to lead stable, ethical and productive lives as well.  Suncoast Rehabilitation Center is one of the most successful centers in the Narconon network.  Here they offer a full-service in-patient center that delivers the full Narconon program; which is considered to be the most comprehensive drug rehabilitation program in the world.  Narconon Suncoast deals directly with each individual’s addiction; assessing their personal recovery needs and goals.
