After his disappointing third place finish in the Florida primary former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to officially end his bid for the Republican nomination and will likely throw his support to good friend and current front-runner John McCain.
Giuliani had placed all his eggs in one basket during the early primary season, electing to concentrate his campaign efforts in Florida. The move proved disastrous for the one-time favorite as he took a sound beating in the early states and that carried over into Florida.
Following Tuesday’s Florida primary results Giuliani said that he would be heading to California, the focus of next week’s Super Tuesday battle but it became clear that he would do so only to endorse his good friend John McCain who edged Mitt Romney in the Sunshine State.
McCain has enjoyed a surge in support over the past few weeks and his victory in South Carolina gave him momentum on Tuesday as he captured 35 percent of the vote, four percent more than Romney.
