The Chicago Blackhawks had a shot at closing out their series with the Vancouver Canucks on their home ice in Game 5 but let that opportunity slip away. Now the Blackhawks will try to end the series in Vancouver where they have already collected a pair of wins in the best-of-seven series.
Vancouver started the series strong, drubbing Chicago 5-1 to take an early advantage but the Blackhawks bounced back and rolled off three straight wins, all by two goals or more. Chicago then had a shot at wrapping up the series on their own ice in Game 5 but the Canucks reused to buckle as Roberto Luongo allowed just one goal in a 4-1 victory to stay alive.
The Canucks will need another performance like that from Luongo if they are to force a Game 7 but that will be tough as the Chicago offense has proven they can score in bunches in any game. That’s exactly what the Blackhawks want on Tuesday as they eye the Western Conference Finals, a series that already has the San Jose Sharks waiting.
