Narconon Freedom Center is a non-profit drug rehabilitation facility that is often able to assist Michigan residents who have gotten into legal trouble as a result of addiction. When the addict is non-violent, the cost of rehabilitation in a Narconon is far less than the cost to the residents in housing one addict in jail. A greater benefit to the community is the Narconon program does rehabilitate the person, not just house the addict for a time only to release them back into society to go and commit the same crime again.
The revolving door of prison is something that dismays Judges and police alike. Seeing the effectiveness of the Narconon program in rehabilitating non-violent drug offenders, Judges have become far more open to providing drug rehab as an alternative to jail.
Although some critics feel that addicts should be jailed, the cost to society is greatly increased. Michigan residents spend more on prisons than on schools. For each dollar that goes to schools, $1.19 goes to prisons. It costs $31,325 a year to Michigan residents to house a prisoner. The result is generally a more hostile and resentful person now returned into society worse than ever. More crimes are usually committed by the same person and thus more state dollars are spent, etc.
However, Narconon Freedom Center can often provide an acceptable solution for drug treatment to the courts. A Narconon Graduate states, "Before this program my life was legally, emotionally, and physically in shambles. By doing drugs I had lost control of my life and everything in it, ruining relationships and hurting all of the people I cared about the most. The Narconon program has given me the skills to confront any problem or situation I encounter, to communicate with others and handle them when they are having difficulties, and to regain control of my life and everything in it."
Similar successes happen regularly at Narconon. By working with the officials and the family it is possible to come up with a responsible solution. The Narconon program not only handles the physical side of addiction but also educates the addict on ethics and their responsibility to society and as such the addict works to make up the damage they have created by their addiction.
