1. Trend: Bright eyes go brighter. At Ralph Lauren, the focus was on the eyes. Makeup artist Tom Pecheux used white eyeliner pencil along the inner eyes to brighten them. He kept the skin cool and dewy by covering models’ complexions in light foundation. For the finishing touch, Pecheux applied transparent gloss to the lips, a fresh and flawless look that’s easy to replicate at home in just minutes.

Try it: First, avoid heavy foundation. Instead, lightly cover any problem areas with a concealer that closely matches skin tone. Choose a bright eyeliner pencil in ivory and lightly outline the tops and bottom of outer eyes from corner to corner. Finish by dusting the entire face in translucent powder and covering lips with clear gloss.

2. Trend: Cleopatra cat eyes go cosmic. Cat eyes are so graphic, but they can seem dated. To update the look for Marc Jacobs, makeup artist François Nars applied dark brown and black liners to eyes prepared in matte white. Nars extended the lines beyond both the inner and outer corners for a modern take on a look that’s an old favorite. So they didn’t compete with the drama, brows were concealed in a light foundation.

Try it: Cat eyes are a great evening look. Using a precision-tip black eyeliner, join the lines from the top and bottom of the eye with the outer corners to create a wing effect – a look that was also featured at Oscar de la Renta.

3. Trend: Shimmering skin is back in the spotlight. At the Carolina Herrera show, makeup artist Diane Kendal enhanced natural skin tones by highlighting them with a transparent shimmering powder. This simple application looks super fresh for spring.

Try it: Today, there are plenty of beauty products with light-catching ingredients, such as translucent powders, crème and powder blushers, eye pencils and shadows. A little shimmer can go a long way, though, so even if it’s not full-on glitter, use products sparingly for the best effect. Try shimmering powder blush-highlighter hybrids in shades of nude, pink and rosy beige.
