John McCain Picks Up Endorsement from California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger played the waiting game and on Thursday he finally committed as he openly endorsed Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

The endorsement is seen as a major victory for McCain who had already picked up support from former candidate Rudy Giuliani. As Super Tuesday nears, California could become the state that pushes McCain over the top against his biggest rival Mitt Romney.

Schwarzenegger, who has entertained the idea of trying to change election laws so that he may one day make a bid for the White House, said in statement “I am interested in a great future, and I think Senator McCain has proven over and over again that he is reaching across the aisle in order to get things done.”

McCain has been building momentum over the past several weeks and gathering endorsements from Florida Sen. Mel Martinez and Florida Gov. Charlie Crist played a big role in his victory in the state’s primary. Now he’s hoping an endorsement from Schwarzenegger will equate to a victory in California.
