O’Hare International Airport Cancels more than 600 Flights as Severe Weather Pounds Central U.S.

Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, the second busiest airport in the United States, ground to a halt Friday morning as more than 600 flights were cancelled while several more were delayed for an average of two hours as snowstorms continued to pound the central United States.

By early Friday morning Chicago had already accumulated five inches of snow with forecasters predicting eight to 12 inches by the afternoon.

As bad as the delays have been at O’Hare and neighboring airport Midway it is the driving conditions that have many forecasters worried. According to Paul Merzlock, National Weather Service meteorologist, “With what's going to be coming down at the rate it'll be coming down, all the roads are going to be snow packed and snow covered.”
