Shannon Bloomfield, 12-Year-Old Olympic Hopeful, Crushed to Death in Horse-Riding Accident

Shannon Bloomfield, a 12-year-old aspiring Olympian, was crushed to death last Sunday when the horse she was riding fell while trying to negotiate a jump. Bloomfield had been competing at an indoor event at the Milton Keynes Eventing Centre in the UK when the accident occurred.

 

Paramedics and a doctor hurried out to Bloomfield after the fall and rushed the British girl to Milton Keynes General Hospital but she was pronounced dead when she arrived.

 

Bloomfield had become an accomplished rider and was expected to challenge for a spot in the 2012 London Olympics.
