Madeleine McCann Parents No Longer Suspected

Madeleine McCann’s parents are no longer suspected in their daughter’s disappearance. British police and child protection officers believe Madeleine was the victim of a “rare stranger abduction.”

The now 4-year-old went missing May 3, 2007 while at the McCann’s holiday apartment in Portugal.

Gerry and Kate McCann’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell says authorities no longer believe the couple were involved in Madeleine’s abduction. The McCanns have always insisted they were innocent.

“I have also had briefings privately from the police and the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) centre that also gave me complete reassurance that the authorities, in this country certainly, are treating this as a case of rare stranger abduction, as they call it,” Mitchell said.
