Female Suicide Bomber Kills Eight in Colombo

A female suicide bomber killed eight people and wounded nearly 100 at a train station in Colombo, Sri Lanka today. This is the second explosion in Sri Lanka today. Earlier this morning a grenade detonated inside the central zoo. That explosion only wounded six.

Sri Lanka has been in chaos since the government pulled out of a cease-fire pact on January 16. The rebel group Tamil Tigers is fighting the government for an independent nation.

Authorities believe the Tamil Tigers are responsible for the train station attack as they often use suicide bombers. The group has not claimed responsibility. They believe the rebels attacked to cause panic as today is a holiday in Sri Lanka. The country’s Independence Day celebrations are tomorrow.
