MLB Schedule Friday May 14: Albert Pujols and St. Louis Cardinals Head into Cincinnati to Face Reds with NL Central Lead at Stake
The MLB schedule for Friday includes a NL Central showdown between the division leading St. Louis Cardinals and second-place Cincinnati Reds. Cincinnati has put together five straight wins and could take over the top spot in the division with a win Friday while the Cardinals are trying to end a three game skid and keep their division lead.
In the AL the big weekend series will be the New York Yankees hosting the Minnesota Twins. The Yankees are two games back of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East while the Twins have a 2 ½ game cushion over the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central. NY will be sending A.J. Burnett to the hill and his 4-1 record has been a major factor in the Yankees early season success. Minnesota has matched that success and will have their ace Francisco Liriano on the mound on Friday. Liriano has posted a 4-1 record of his own with a 2.36 ERA.
The LA Angels would really like to get themselves back into the thick of the AL West and they’ll have their chance this weekend as they host the Oakland A’s. LA is currently 5 ½ games back of the Texas Rangers but trail the A’s by 3 ½ games.
