Mike Brown coached the Cleveland Cavaliers to an NBA best 61-21 record in the regular season but that wasn’t enough for owner Dan Gilbert who has reportedly cut ties with his coach of five seasons after a disappointing playoff semifinals loss to the Boston Celtics.
While Brown had little trouble getting his Cavs into the playoffs it was the post-season performance that truly cost him as Cleveland found itself bounced out in the semis for the second time in three seasons.
Despite his 271-138 record over his five seasons, Brown’s firing doesn’t come as a major surprise as several of his players, including LeBron James, have questioned some his decisions in games.
This year was considered an all or nothing for the Cavaliers as they surrounded LeBron James with complementary players who were supposed to put the team over the top and earn the franchise’s first NBA title but the Celtics experience was too much.
