Skeletal Remains Believed to be Victim of Gary Hilton

A medical examiner has confirmed that the skeletal remains found in North Carolina is those of missing hiker John Bryant. Bryant and his wife Irene Bryant were hiking in North Carolina Mountains last October when John, 80, went missing and Irene, 84, was found dead near a trail.

Transylvania County Sheriff John Mahoney says a hunter found Bryant’s remains Saturday.  Mahoney said they believe 61-year-old Hilton is responsible for the murder of the couple.

On January 31, 2008 Hilton pleaded guilty to the murder of Georgia hiker Meredith Emerson. Emerson, 24, went missing on New Years after going hiking with her dog, Ella. Hilton led police to her decapitated body on January 7 in exchanged for no death penalty. He was sentenced to life in prison, but will be eligible for parole in 30 years.

Mahoney said when investigators interviewed Hilton he asked for an attorney. Hilton is also being investigated for the murder of Florida hiker Cheryl Dunlap.
