Mexico Imposes Heavy Fines for Shaving While Driving

Authorities in Northern Mexico warns motorists that anyone who is caught putting on lipstick, shaving or holding a pet while behind the wheel, will be charged hefty fines in an attempt to lower the chances of traffic accidents.

Applying makeup or shaving while driving will cost the drivers 346 pesos ($32) in Torreon in Northern Mexico City.

Along with other common traffic offenses, that charge higher fines, such as driving under intoxication, speeding and talking on a cell phone without a hands free device, the city hall included littering and driving with an animal or even another person on the motorist’s lap.

Torreon is desperate to encourage safe driving as many drivers often drive drunk, ignore traffic lights, drive with children in the front seat and carry passenger is the back of their trucks.  As a result of the reckless driving, fatal accidents are a common event in the area.
