Iran will release a French lecturer and allow her to leave the country after commuting a ten-year sentence to a fine of $285,000.
Clotilde Reiss was handed the ten year sentence on Saturday after being found guilty of spying in Iran following the violent elections of last June. Reiss, 25, had covered several anti-government protests, taking pictures of the events and emailing those photos.
Reiss was arrested in July and held for six weeks before being moved to the French embassy in Tehran where she awaited sentencing.
Saturday’s decision will now mean Reiss can return to France.
