Chinese Court Sentences Man to Death for Knife Attack on Kindergarten Class

A Chinese court has sentenced a man to death after he slashed 29 children and three teachers with a knife at a school in Jiangsu province.

During his trial Xu Yuyuan said the motive behind the attack was to vent his rage against society and it took the court just half-day to hand down a death sentence despite all victims surviving the attack.

April’s attack at Taixing's Zhongxin Kindergarten was just one in a string of violent attacks at schools over the past two months. Those string of attacks have left several students dead or injured and led to calls for tighter security in China’s schools.

China’s Premier Wen Jiabao has said the recent attacks were evidence that the country has “social tensions” and needed to “handle social problems, resolve disputes and strengthen mediation at the grassroots level.”

Just three days ago a man hacked to death seven children and two adults were hacked to death at a kindergarten in Shaanxi province. The man responsible for that attack later killed himself.
