Shortly after Rafel Nadal took care of Nicolas Almagro in his semifinals match at the Madrid Open to reach the finals Roger Federer dispatched David Ferrer to punch his ticket, setting up a showdown between the top two players in the sport.
Federer earned a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 victory on the clay court Saturday, earning a trip to his first finals since his Australian Open title earlier this year. The win also kept Federer perfect against Ferrer who was trying to make it an all Spaniard finals. Federer is now 10-0 against Ferrer.
Prior to the Federer-Ferrer match Nadal overcame a one-set deficit to drop Nicolas Almagro 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Federer has two career victories at the Madrid Open, including a win over Nadal in last year’s finals. Nadal does have one finals win in the Masters event.
