Narconon Drug Rehab Hosts Popular Outings
Normal Activities Ease Transition into Society
It is Friday night, and the clients of the Narconon Drug Rehab are screaming and yelling. No, it isn’t a riot, they have been taken on a scheduled outing, and they are cheering for their team at the Georgia Dome. The Atlanta Thrashers and the Florida Panthers have gone into overtime and are now in shootouts. “This is more exciting than I thought it would be,” comments one drug rehab client. “I didn’t know drug rehab could be this fun.”
Along with scheduled trips to the Georgia Dome to watch the Atlanta Thrashers and the Atlanta Hawks play rival teams, the Narconon Drug Rehab schedules trips to the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, paintball tournaments, movie outings, and trips to Six Flags, among many others, as an effort to ease the transition into society.
“We feel that these supervised outings, done on a weekly basis, not only are culturally beneficial, but show the recovering drug addicts they can have fun and not use drugs,” comments Mary Rieser, Executive Director for the Narconon of Georgia Drug Rehab. “In most cases, people check into our drug rehab with a distorted view of life. They feel that life is not fun unless they use drugs, and many have not learned that there are other things in life that are exciting, safe, and socially acceptable. While they learn the tools to living a successful, drug-free life through the Narconon drug rehab program, they must also learn that life can be fun without drugs, and we try to teach them other avenues to live a happy life.”
The response has been very positive, and clients look forward to their weekly outings. “I feel like I am learning to live a normal life,” comments one. “I know now that once I am clean and living a drug-free life, I will now have activities I can do that will not contribute to relapse.”
Narconon Drug Rehab boasts a 76% success rate (based on a two year follow-up) Once the client undergoes a body detoxification through a sauna and exercise program that helps eliminate or reduce cravings, they learn those life skills essential to success in life and the ability to stay clean. They graduate from Narconon with a life plan and continued support to make sure they make it in life.
