Tornadoes Rip Through Southern States, At Least 47 Dead

Super Tuesday brought with it super storms as several tornadoes ripped through the southern states leaving at least 47 dead and hundreds injured.

Tennessee tornadoes have accounted for 24 deaths while Arkansas has reported 13 killed and Kentucky seven. Rescue crews have been going door-to-door in many areas as they dig through the rumble of buildings and homes that were destroyed by the twisters.

The Volunteer State was the hardest hit as several hospitals were forced to run on generators following a massive power outage. Those hospitals were filled with hundreds of injured as the entire state felt the brunt of the tornadoes that hit late last night.

At Union University in Jackson, TN eight students were trapped in a destroyed dormitory while strong winds in Memphis collapsed the roof of a Sears store at a local shopping mall. In Nashville a natural gas pumping station was the scene of a massive fire that could be seen from miles away with some reports saying flames reached 400 to 500 feet in the air.
